KIDS GUERNICA

The KIDS GUERNICA is an opportunity for children (and adults) from different countries to use art as vehicle for peace and peacemaking.  The project, some 30 years old, has children from different cultures making art together.  Inspired by Pablo Picasso's famous anti-war mural of the bombing of the Spanish city of Guernica, the Kids Guernica project is a counterpoint of hope, making murals about peace and peacemaking to speak for hope for the future.

Ritsuko Fukuda and Chie Yazaki, artist, are bringing the large (10 by 17 foot) mural. which was begun by children in Nagasaki, to be completed by American and Japanese students working together the first week of August. We are hoping to have twenty of more American students join in this activity.  More details about time and location forthcoming.  The mural will be displayed at the August 8 ceremony, the Obon Festival on August 17, and at the Minnesota History Center the weekend of August 23 and 24.
