Each August we remember the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and renew our pledge to promote peace and not war. These events are sponsored by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Hiroshima Nagasaki Commemoration Committee and SPNSCC. Events may vary depending on the year. Previous events have included:
August 5 at 6 p.m.– Commemorative tea ceremony at Lyndale Park Peace Garden near Lake Harriet in Minneapolis.
August 6 at 7:30 a.m.– Ceremony of the Cranes at Lyndale Park Peace Garden, near the Spirit of Peace sculpture.
August 6 at 9:00 a.m.– Ceremony of 11 Bells at Spirit of Peace sculpture, Lyndale Park Peace Garden, led by Veterans for Peace.
August 8 at 7 p.m.– Nagasaki Commemoration at time of ceremonies in Nagasaki at the Global Harmony Labyrinth at Como Park in St. Paul. The ceremony features a reading of On That Summer Day.
